Last Wednesday, our class had an opportunity to visit the National Art Gallery in KL and work with Ms. Lucas, our art teacher, to develop their persuasive writing techniques as well as learn about art in the world.
Our goal was to work on their writing skills and also develop their idea about what makes good art and bad art and how our past experiences and preconceived ideas influences how we see art.
They were tasked with looking for pieces of art that they thought were "Good Art" and pieces that they thought were "Bad Art". They have learned in art class that a piece of art that someone thinks is not nice is not what everyone necessarily thinks. They had to look at the techniques that the artist used in their analysis and explanation.
They are working in class with developing their writing about what they thought was good or bad art and to use their persuasion techniques to convince the reader about what they are trying to say. In art class, they are following up with the trip by discussing the art they chose and then creating art that is inspired by what they saw.
We enjoyed the trip and it was nice to connect what they are learning about in art with what we are learning about writing in the classroom.
